Amazon Alexa transforms the Pebble Core into a productivity device

The Pebble Core is a small 3G device apart of Pebble’s newest Kickstarter campaign which has raised over $9 million so far! The Core is perfect for runners with its ability to play Spotify offline and track your runs via it’s GPS. At launch, Pebble said hackers could play with the device to make it to just about anything. The company announced on their blog the Core have Amazon Alexa built in!

Pebble Core and Alexa

“Experiencing Amazon Alexa on-the-go right from Pebble Core is game-changing for wearable technology,” said Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky. “We’re longtime fans of the powerful voice services Alexa delivers, and it only gets smarter and more useful over time. It’s an approach we embrace with our own products.”

The only downside I’ve seen with the Pebble Core is you’ll need to buy a sim card for the little device. This means a monthly charge with most carriers, anywhere from $5 to $15 a month. While a hassle, if you run daily or want Alexa on the go, the Core will make things easier. Alexa on the Core means you’ll be able to turn lights off and on, tell her to play Spotify, or ask her about the news or weather.

The integration isn’t a new idea, and Alexa is on hundreds of devices already. I’m excited to carry Alexa around more places, and if she always listens the features will be even more powerful! Pebble Core is $79 (retails for $99) and is currently available on Kickstarter with shipments starting in early 2017.

Tell us if the Pebble Core is more appealing with Alexa integration in the comments below! I know I’m tempted to back the campaign to give the Core a go now, even though I was very bullish on the campaign at first.
