The updated GetGlue app for iPhone has started to reflect how TV consumption is changing. The update now allows users to check-into shows that are on non-traditional ways to consume media such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, iTunes, HBO Go and a handful of other services. With these on demand services on the rise, it will be interesting to see if GetGlue can fill in these viewer ship gaps. Netflix does not release statics on how many people watch a show, but with this update GetGlue can get pretty darn close to how well the shows doing compared to other shows.
The update shows that TV is not being consumed at real time but later on demand on these services. I know that GetGlue before would struggle to understand what show I was watching if it was on one of these on demand services. Now it will be easier, and more users will be able to check in and contribute to the growing community.
