Moment is a wearable without a screen and based around touch

We’re overwhelmed with screens in our pockets, on our wrist, and all around us. Sure, looking at our screens is an excellent way of find out the time or browse the web, but one startup believes we are underutilizing our sense of touch. Meet the Moment, a wearable without a screen but instead uses an advanced haptic engine to create patterns and smart pulses on your wrist.

The focus on touch means no distracting glances at your wrist during a lunch conversation or pulling your phone out at an award time to see who’s calling. Instead, the Moment draws shapes and patterns to notify you of who’s calls, GPS turn by turn instructions, notifications, and other alerts. And none of it requires you to look at a screen – just feel it.

Once setup you’ll need to train your brain. “Your brain adjusts to the new streams of data through a process known as sensory substitution,” the Moment team says. “Over time, the new information becomes intuition. ” That means you’ll start to learn what each pattern relates to notification wise, and it’ll become intuitive.

The battery last for 24 hours of continual use, but for most usage will last up to 4 days. The device is water-resistant, so you can wear it 24/7 without the worry of it getting ruined by a little dip in the pool. The project is raising money through crowdfunding on their site, but they have a roadmap and expect ship dates already. You’re able to pre-order the Moment for $99, tremendous savings from the $179 retail.

Tell us in the comments below what you think about the Moment and if you’re going to pre-order the device now! Also, don’t forget to tell them we sent you there way.
