If you haven’t snagged a Nintendo Switch yet, check out our article on how to find one in retail stores or online. Maybe you cannot wait any longer; you can pay a premium on eBay or Amazon. If you’re shopping on either eBay or Amazon, you need to make sure the seller has positive feedback and is a reputable seller. If you have a Switch or plan on getting one, you’ll notice there’s only a handful of games currently out. The only game worth your time now is Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Otherwise, there aren’t any good games out yet.
Luckily there’s another handful of games being released in the coming weeks. The titles are worth a pre-order, considering you’ll probably already finished Zelda by then. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can save 20% when you pre-order the games. You’ll get the games on launch day, and they’ll be cheaper than pre-ordering at Target or GameStop.
These are the hottest titles being released for the Nintendo Switch over the next couple of weeks. At least, they’re the ones I’m going to pre-order through Amazon.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The classic Mario Kart is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a multiplayer version you’ll love to bring to the rooftop party to play with friends. For real, though, Mario Kart is a great game to use the Joy-Con controllers whether the Switch is docked or undocked. There are the same tracks as in the Wii U version with every DLC, along with new guest characters. When docked to the TV the game will play in 1080p, something Zelda cannot say!
If you have friends with a Switch, unlikely, you can play a four player Lan style game. I’m beyond excited to play Mario Kart in the car or when I’m at a friends house.
Minecraft: Story Mode
Minecraft is on every device possible! The Story mode is the complete adventure including all eight episodes of the first season. While you won’t get the basic Minecraft where you can explore and build, you’ll get the store mode. If you’ve played on your phone or have only played a few episodes, then this is your chance. If you pre-order the game now you can snag it for only $31 through Amazon Prime.
I’ve played a few of the stories but not all the episodes so I know having all of them will push me to finish the whole story. I’m hopeful that the original open world Minecraft will make its way to the Switch. I could spend hours building and explore on the Switch, even though I could just play on my phone or laptop.
Ultra Street Fighter II
The most iconic fighting game of all time is on the Nintendo Switch! The nearly 10-year-old game still has the retro graphics or a new modern take, you can pick. There’s all the classic characters we’ve come to love, plus two new fighters! There’s new game modes and new multiplayer game modes to fight friends. With Nintendo’s new focus on the online gameplay, we’ll see how good the online play is with this game.
I’m a sucker for retro, throwback games that pull on everyone nostalgia. Capcom has made games for decades so them bringing Ultra Street Fighter II to the Switch is amazing. I wish the game shipped with the Switch, but we cannot get everything we want.
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey isn’t the Mario you’ve come to love. It’s a modern take on the classic game. The graphics look more realistic than other Mario games, and they set the game in a City. Mario is exploring a city where you’ll run around, jump on buildings, and swing from street signs. It sounds like a lot of fun, but a huge move from other Mario games.
If you love Mario, you’ll still fall in love with this game. Nintendo managed to make Mario relevant in a world where straight runners like Super Mario Run on the iPhone isn’t as fun as it used to be. We are accustomed to GTAV, Zelda, and Destiny. We’ll see how the game looks and how much fun we’ll have once it starts shipping.
Splatoon 2
The hit game Splatoon is making the jump to the Nintendo Switch. The first Splatoon was a fun, competitive game where you played as a little squid. The goal of the game is to cover the map with your color paint before the other team covers the map with their paint color. The core game has been a hit among gamers and Nintendo fans. Now we’ll get a chance to play with it while we’re on the go. You’ll have the local multiplayer support if you can get a couple of people with Switches together.
Splatoon 2 is only on the Nintendo Switch, so if you have a Wii U you better upgrade! Splatoon 1 had a growing community of competitive players, and those players will likely make the jump to Splatoon 2. There’s a beta version of the game on the eShop if you want to see what the game will be like.
Wrap Up
The Nintendo Switch is getting some great games before the holiday season. Splatoon 2, Minecraft, Mario, Mario Kart, Ultra Street Fighter, and many more titles over the year. While Zelda is the only worth while game now, there is more coming out in the next few weeks that you’ll need to buy. Rumors are swirling Rocket League will make the port to the Switch, and some have talked about Resident Evil making a port. Developers are interested as demand is extremely high; outpacing the Wii sales in some markets. Nintendo will need to keep up with demand and start getting inventory back in stock everywhere to keep fans and investors happy.
If you still haven’t picked up that Nintendo Switch you’ve wanted, don’t forget to check out our article on how to track in-store inventory and get notified. Lastly, tell us in the comments below what game you’re most excited about? I’m beyond excited to get Splatoon 2 on the Switch, but I’m also pumped to have the Minecraft series on the Switch. Both games I’ll regularly play on the go or in between meetings, hell I’ll probably play when I’m supposed to write!
