Snapbots are vending machines that dispense Spectacles
Snapchat, now Snap Inc, introduced Spectacles, a pair of sunglasses with a wide angle lens built in that shares photos directly to Snapchat. The glasses are $130, but in Snapchat fashion you’re only able to buy the glasses through a vending machine that’s going to travel the country.

The vending machine will move around the country to let anyone buy the new glasses, but there isn’t any word on where the machine will travel or how long it’ll stay in each location. I expected a soft launch at first, with celebrities and influencers, but Snap took a slightly different approach. I’m uncertain how many Spectacles will be available when they become more widely sold, or if more than one vending machine will pop up. One thing I do know is Snapchat is letting you try the glasses on with a special filter which you’ll need to scan a QR code to use.
The launch strategy is creative and creates a sense of scarcity. If you’re in the market for Spectacles, they’ll likely go up on Ebay or Amazon in the coming weeks for double to triple the price they sell for at the vending machine.
