Let’s Hunt on Product Hunt

Each week I round up the best product on Product Hunt for you to check out. There are dozens of new podcasts, hundreds of new apps, and many more products launched on Product Hunt Each week. It’s hard to keep up, but luckily for you, I spend most my day lurking on the site. There were many more hunts I wanted to include, but these were the top ones I loved.

If you don’t know what Product Hunt is, I wrote a little description to help you understand:

Product Hunt is a service where you can share and discover new products. The site was founded byRyan Hoover in November of 2013, with funding from Y Combinator. The basis of the site is users submit a fresh podcast, an innovative app, other tech products, or wild gadgets. From there other users upvote the products onto the front page. The whole process feels a lot like Reddit but with a focus towards discovering products within the technology community.

I’m active on Product Hunt as @leonhitchens, where you can follow me!

Let’s hunt together!

New Uber App

Uber released a new logo and branding a little while back, and now they’ve released an updated Uber app. The improvements include fare transparency, faster startup, previous locations, and the new Uber Feed with 3rd party developer cards. The cards are integrations from Snapchat, Pandora, Spotify, and others. They’re meant to help you get more out of your Uber ride.

Linkedin Salary

Linkedin is working on making it easier to see if you’re making more, less, or the same as your colleagues in your industry. It’s great to have transparency for salaries to keep everyone on the same playing field whether you’re a man or women. The downside to these tools is they don’t include benefits, bonus, and other equity packages.

New IFTTT App

IFTTT is now the duct tape that’s keeping smart home technology working in unison. The app is moving away from recipes and making a shift towards applets. The change is minor but could affect every smart homemaker as they use the service to communicate wit other devices from the Nest to Lifx lights.

Shopping on Instagram

Facebook is making Instagram a photo juggernaut, and they’ve been making it easier to advertise to their users. Now Instagram is introducing a way to buy goods through the picture service directly. The idea is a lot like what Twitter tried to do and failed, but Instagram has the upper hand; users already love looking at new clothes and trust Facebook/Instagram.

Kickstarter Live

Kickstarter campaigns always have a video, at least the successful ones. The videos allow the creators to connect with the backers, share vital info, and provide authentic footage of the new product. Kickstarter is now launching live video to let creators host Q&A’s, product previews, and other live streams that could help backers connect better the campaign. It’ll also contribute to keeping the campaign talking to everyone and keep the supporters informed.

The Verge 3.0

The Verge is one of the significant technology and culture news sites, and they’ve been working on a redesign for some time. The change is focusing on bringing their brand into the modern age of publishing where visitors access the site from multiple platforms. They also released some inside baseball information for everyone to read, not to mention they’ve been relatively open about the redesign.

Whale

Whale is a new app from the founders of Vine. The app uses video to allow anyone to host a Q&A. The rise of Twitch, Snapchat, and other video platforms mean more things are happening through video and not text or images. The video could be the best way to answer a question because you can think it out and put it in more words in a fast and efficient way.
