The Amazon Echo with Alexa has become the prevailing AI with Google and Apple all mimicking the voice assistant by opening up to developers. The speakers on the Amazon Echo and Echo Tap aren’t the best sounding speakers, but now Alexa will get to use some of the highest quality speakers on the market. At an event in New York, Sonos announced will be able to connect to voice commands from Alexa starting in 2017.

For anyone who wants to test the new Amazon Alexa and Sonos partnership, there will be a private beta starting later this year. One thing to note is no current Sonos device has a built-in microphone, so users will need to speak to Alexa when they’re in range of Echo.
“Alexa/Echo is the first product to really showcase the power of voice control in the home,” Sonos CEO John MacFarlane wrote earlier this year. “Its popularity with consumers will accelerate innovation across the entire industry. What is novel today will become standard tomorrow.”
