You can now ask Twitter to be Verified

Getting Verified wasn’t clear cut nor was there a process to try to get verified. Twitter is now opening up the application process to the public.

“We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification,” said Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter’s vice president of User Services. “We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience.”

The blue checkmark on influencers, politicians, and other celebrities show their profiles are not a parody, fake or otherwise trying to deceive who they are. The users who have traditionally get their account verified are journalist, brands, or other high profile users.

Now there is a simple form where you can request to be Verified, but Twitter will need links and up to 500 characters of why you should be a verified user.   Twitter support will then get back to you with questions and could ask for more information like a picture ID. The process shouldn’t take long but with the wave of users requesting to be Verified it could take a few weeks right now.

Tell us in the comments below if you are going to request to be Verified and what you think about verified users!
