Octopus, a smartwatch, helps teach your kids good habits

Building healthy habits with children is a daily struggle, and keeping a constant schedule is grueling and painful. A new Kickstarter, Octopus by Joy, wants to place training wheels on your children through a small icon based smartwatch. The smartwatch is easy to read and understand for children because everything’s icon based. The Octopus smartwatch can help teach your kids healthy habits ranging from feeding the fish daily to brushing their teeth every morning.

The campaign has blow by it’s $50,000 goal, raising over $470,000 with still 24 days to go! If you pledge $99 or more, you’ll get the watch and the companion charging stand/nightlight. The watch is one of the best family tech gadgets I’ve seen in years! It’s something that’ll grow with your child, teaching them how technology can enable them to accomplish anything in their life. It’ll also help them understand responsibility, foster independence, and helps you keep their daily routine.

The level of ownership and accountability the watch gives the child a sense of the control of what they do, all the while you’re leading them towards a healthy and well maintained day. It’s been tested and approved by hundreds of parents, teachers, doctors. Everything the watch does is meant to start them at an early age to understand what they’re doing and when they’re doing it.

I have a young daughter, less than a year old that I would love to see her use something like this when she’s old enough to understand everything and be independent. The watch is inexpensive enough to buy her one, and not worry about her breaking it in the course of her day.

The Kickstarter campaign has 24 days left, and a limited amount of pre-orders for the Octopus are left. Tell us in the comments below if you’re going to pick up the Octopus or tell us if you have a better gadget to teach your kids healthy habits.
