Microsoft announces the Xbox One S
The rumors were true. Microsoft announced the Xbox One S, which is 40% slimmer and can lay flat or stand vertically. The console also comes in a “robot white” which looks clean and also looks like it’ll stand out when all of our other devices are black or a darker color. The One S features 4K Ultra HD video support and HDR capabilities for both gaming and video. Meanwhile, one of the console’s USB ports has been moved to the front for easy access, along with the controller pairing button, and these improvements are things customers have asked for since the One came out. The Xbox One S doesn’t include a dedicated Kinect sensor port, which means Microsoft is likely moving away from the Kinect even as they add Cortona to the console. If you want to hook up a Kinect for voice controls, you’ll need a separate USB adaptor.
A special edition launch edition of the Xbox One S will be available in early August with a 2TB hard drive for $399. Then two standard versions will be available: a 500GB edition for $299, and 1TB for $349.
