Let’s Hunt on Product Hunt

Each week I round up the best product on Product Hunt for you to check out. There are dozens of new podcasts, hundreds of new apps, and many more products launched on Product Hunt Each week. It’s hard to keep up, but luckily for you, I spend most my day lurking on the site. There were many more hunts I wanted to include, but these were the top ones I loved.

If you don’t know what Product Hunt is, I wrote a little description to help you understand:

Product Hunt is a service where you can share and discover new products. The site was founded by Ryan Hoover in November of 2013, with funding from Y Combinator. The basis of the site is users submit a fresh podcast, an innovative app, other tech products, or wild gadgets. From there other users upvote the products onto the front page. The whole process feels a lot like Reddit but with a focus towards discovering products within the technology community.

I’m active on Product Hunt as @leonhitchens, where you can follow me!

Let’s hunt together!

1Blocker for Mac

Ad blockers don’t block the content from download scripts or rendering images. Instead, they read the pages for content which mean sites like Wierd of Forbes can block your ad blocker. Prompting you to disable your ad blocker or pay to read ad free. 1Blocker is native ad blocker meaning adblocker-blockers are unable to prevent them. I know a mouth full. The app is $5 but for native ad blocker, it’s well worth it.

Copper – Password free signups

Copper is a password free service where you enter your phone number and get an authentication code to sign in. The process is a lot like using two-step authentication with services, minus remembering or even having to type your passwords.  Developers can integrate the service into their website or app, meaning services won’t need to store sensitive passwords. It’s a superb idea, but there are bumps in the road like how do you access your account without a phone.

Flatbook for Google Chrome

Facebook in the browser isn’t well designed or that easy to use. Flatbook is a Google Chrome extension which makes Facebook look sexy again, in seconds. The design is flat with lots of beautiful icons. While I wouldn’t want to use the extension all the time, it refreshing to see Facebook could be better designed than how it looks now. The design isn’t perfect, though, the icons aren’t high resolution so on Retina or HD screens they’ll look blurry.

Microsoft Planner

Watch out Trello; Microsoft introduced a project management tool for Microsoft Office.  The product sounds like a clunkier version of Trello, but being part of Office could mean a lot of business use the service us because they already use office. While I won’t switch from Trello to Microsoft Planner, it’s something I could see myself using if I was working with a Fortune 500 company. It is nice to see Microsoft offering more tools for businesses and making their office 360 service more useful.
