Twitter to stop count links and photos to 140 character limit

Twitter’s most known for its 140 character limit, and many claim this is why Twitter has become so successful. When rumors of longer 10,000 characters tweet limit surfaced, many were outraged. They collective said this change would ruin what Twitter is, and make it more like a Facebook. A new report from Bloomberg claims Twitter may stop counting links and photos towards the 140 character limit. This would be a groundbreaking change and one which is being well received on Twitter now.

Links take up 23 characters even when shortened, which doesn’t give users a lot of breathing room to comment on a link. A lot of times it’s hard to fit a link and headline within one tweet, but soon we won’t have to worry about the character limit when attaching a link.

Twitter has declined to comment on rumors, a common practice for the company. We’ll have to wait and see what the social network decides to do. If the reaction on Twitter is any indication, they’ll more than likely move ahead with the decision and could roll something out in few weeks. The company recently removed the character limit from DMs, making it easier to message friends on the social network.
