VR roller coasters are coming to a theme park near you

Starting this summer, you’ll have a different experience when riding roller coasters at Six Flags theme parks. Samsung Gear headsets will don rollercoasters for a unique and likely terrifying experience. Samsung, now the “official technology partner” of Six Flags theme parks, will sell Six Flags Gear VR units that will be embedded into roller coasters.

“With the addition of these virtual reality coasters, Six Flags will be introducing more than double the number of new coasters and rides than we did in 2015, and more than any year in the last decade,” Six Flags president and CEO John Duffey said. “Innovation is part of our DNA, and news in every park every year is driving higher guest satisfaction and building strong momentum for our company.”

I’m excited about the idea of a VR roller coaster, and after Samsung showed us a VR coaster at CES, I’m hooked on the VR experience. The roller coaster will give the theme park multiple different ways to make VR feel realer, more exciting, and more relatable to consumers who will get a taste of consumer VR.

Six Flags could make you feel like you’re Superman, fly in a jet, or Halloween themed rides. Riding on the roller coaster gives VR another layer of depth that just wearing them in your home doesn’t. It’s also amazing Samsung has the technology to sync the coasters movement with the VR experience.

Tell us in the comments below what you think about a VR roller coaster, and if you’d be willing to ride on one!
