Responsive LED backlighting makes your TV a ‘DreamScreen’

A crowdfunding campaign on KickStarter is offering a DYI solution for smart LED backlighting for you TV. The colored LEDs blend the screen into the rest of your wall by using the HDMI ports to match the colors of screen with the LEDs on the back. Phillips TVs have had LEDs built into the rear of the televisions for some time, however replacing a whole TV for rearĀ LEDs is outrageous.

DreamScreen brings a DIY solution to any TV with a spare HDMI port. The DreamScreen lights will than changed based on the colors on the TV when your watching a movie, playing a video game, or listening to music. The lights are able to change at 60fps, making the lights seem to be an extension of the TV. The lights are meant to help with eye strain in a dark room, and make your TV pop.

You’re also able to control the lights on TV with an Android or iOS smart phone. The pictures and press photos mainly show mounted TVs, but the lights work with TVs not wall mounted. The TVs look amazing either way, and for only $125 while on KickStarter, it’s a solid deal. Their funding goal isĀ $25,000 but as of this post they’ve blown past their goal with $158,000 pledged.

Tell us in the comments below what you think about the DreamScreen and if you’re going to pledge to this KickStarter!
