Pebble Time Round surprise announcement

Pebble, roughly a 130 employee company, had original success with the Pebble Kickstarter and again with the Pebble Time Kickstarter. The smart watch landscape changed a lot over the past 6 months. The Apple Watch, Android Wear, and dozens of other watches have been released, along with Android Wear adding support for iOS. Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky is may appear soft-spoken, but he’s no fool. The Pebble Time Round is the companies first round-shaped watch.

The Pebble Time Round is a beautiful wearable for your wrist, and it actually looks like a traditional watch. The new Huawei Watch and Moto 360 have circular watch faces , but the Pebble Time Round looks more stylish and like a watch most normal people would wear. The Pebble Time Round is only 7.5mm thin and 28 grams, which makes ita the thinnest and lightest smart watch out there. The new Moto 360 is 11.4mm thick, which makes the Round seem down right paper-thin. You’ll have to trade-off the amazing battery life of the Pebble Time for only 2 days of battery on the Round. Pebble says fashion over function is worth it in this case. Pebble has built a quick charge feature which lets the watch charge 80% in only 15 minutes.

The Pebble Time Round is similar to the Pebble Time with an always on color e-ink screen, and is water-resistant. The company understands that its quirky style doesn’t always fit everyone’s style, especially with the Apple Watch marketing itself as a higher end watch. The Round will fill the higher market, but without the high prices. The watch is cross-platform, along with the support of most watch faces and all the Pebble Time apps. The company pushed for developers to give information to its Timeline so apps won’t have parts of information cut out with the round screen.

The only downside to the beautiful watch is the huge bezel, which is something present across all the Pebble’s smart watches. You can pre-order the Pebble Time Round beginning today for $249, with shipments slated to go out in early November. The watch comes in one size (38mm), but you’re able to order different band sizes (20mm and 14mm) and three different colors (Gold, Black, and Silver).
