Facebook looks to challenge Google Now, Siri, and Cortana with M

Personal assistants are popping up everywhere with Google Now, Siri, and Cortana all going head to head for the best personal assistant. Now Facebook is jumping in the ring with a surprise announcement of M for Facebook Messenger.

David Marcus, who runs Facebook Messenger announced the news of M through a Facebook status update. He offered up a few details and screenshots that gave us a glimpse of what M will do. M looks intelligence but is still supervised by humans. David claims the new personal assistant will stand out through new and unique features.

Facebook M will run through Messenger as a conversation and can help you find and buy products, book restaurant reservations, check travel arrangements, and make appointments. It doesn’t use voice control like Siri, Google Now, or Cortana instead it use text conversation.

Facebook M is in the early testing phase, and it looks like it’s a long way from launching on a massive scale as other personal assistants. It makes Facebook Messenger a even bigger platform that would be able to send or receive money, talk to friends and brands, and now do much more with M.
