Chrysler recalls 1.4 million vehicles over hacking concerns
After Wired reported on security holes with thousands of Chrysler vehicles that sport Uconnect infotainment systems. The exploit would allow hackers to disable everything from the transmission to the cars brakes while in use. The hackers could access the vehicle’s Uconnect system from anywhere in the world remotely, through the vehicles internet connection provide from Sprint.
Owners of vehicles affected can update the Uconnect software by themselves or can go into the dealership to have them update the software. Over 10 different FCA models are affected by the security hole, to the tune of 1.4 million cars. The full list is below.
Affected are certain vehicles equipped with 8.4-inch touchscreens among the following populations:

2013-2015 MY Dodge Viper specialty vehicles

2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups

2013-2015 Ram 3500, 4500, 5500 Chassis Cabs

2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee SUVs

2014-2015 Dodge Durango SUVs

2015 MY Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans

2015 Dodge Challenger sports coupes
FCA has setup a website where you can input your VIN to see if your vehicle is among the recall. The only bright side to all of this news is the security research who exposed the hack didn’t want to cause harm, but to raise awareness of the vulnerability of our connected cars. There haven’t been any reported attacks out in the wild, and that’s good consider the amount of damage hackers could do.
