OnePlus Announced Oxygen OS; It’s replacement for CyanogenMod

OnePlus announced a new custom ROM for Android; Oxygen OS. The OnePlus One comes installed with CyanogenMod, but recent deals with an India phone make has strained the ties with OnePlus. The Oxygen OS doesn’t comes as an over the air update, but instead you’ll need to download the files and flash it to your OnePlus One.

The name for the new ROM is strange, but in the OnePlus forums the company has a full explanation:

As an element, Oxygen is the epitome of simplicity, yet it’s also extraordinarily powerful.

Oxygen is all around us. It’s part of us and everything we do. It creates the water that carves out valleys and moves mountains. By itself, it’s simple and pure—a fundamental building block. But, as a part of something greater, it can do amazing things. Just like us.

The OS looks like stock Android at first glance, but gives more customization. The custom-built in-house ROM will give the company the ability to customize the software for future phones and change bits and pieces of the software based on user feedback quickly.

Customization of Android includes better battery life, gestures support, and small UI tweaks. The company wants to offer faster updates and Oxygen OS will be the right path to faster updates. The OS is available for download at the OnePlus site, and thousands have already downloaded the new ROM.
