Get Ready for the iOS 8 Update Tomorrow

Tomorrow on Wednesday, Apple will release the final version of iOS to million of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users across the the world. If you have an iPhone 4s, iPad 2, and 5th gen iPod touch you’ll be able to grab the newest version of iOs once Apple list the update on its servers. As previous updates have gone we can expect errors, server overloads, and slower downloads during peak times. We can also expect iTunes connectivity issues, so be prepared for install failures as everyone rushes to get the latest software from Apple. There are a few things you can do today to ensure your process tomorrow goes smoothly and you don’t lose all your data if the update fails.

If you’ve jailbroken iOS 7 you should think about not updating tomorrow, that’s if you’re a part of that demographic. Also many users should be warned that some apps will have issues, or not look that good with the update. Even though Apple had a beta program for developers not everyone jumps on this to update their apps right on the day iOS 8 is released. With the added features we can see a few users struggling to understand the changes, but they are not as drastic as iOS 7.

For everyone going to try and update tomorrow there are a few things you should do before updating the iOS device. This means backing up your iOS device to your Mac or PC, or by using iCloud, before installing iOS 8. If you want to start fresh you can update your iOS device with a clean install of iOS 8, which is best done by plugging your phone into a computer.

If you want to update your iOS device without a computer Apple allows you to download the update over the air, only if you have enough space on the device. The update can be found under General Settings > Software Update, and should be available tomorrow sometime. The other way to update is through iTunes, after hooking the device up to the Mac or PC.

Overall you need to back up the device either via iTunes or iCloud, and be ready to keep trying to download the update tomorrow. I expecting Apple to handle downloads fairly well but with millions of iOS users trying to update their gadget at the same time we can expect some sort of glitches or slowed downloads.

We’d love to hear what is making you excited to download iOS 8 tomorrow, also we’d love to hear status updates from tomorrow. You can either Tweet us, leave a Facebook message or leave a comment below!
