Xbox One and Xbox 360 Add More Apps

Microsoft announced it would be adding 45 new apps on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. The new additions include Vine, Twitter, HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, Comedy Central and Major League Gaming. It will bring the total app count to more than 225. The new additions will help the Xbox platform further compete with smart TV’s and set-top boxes like the Roku. In addition, the Xbox’s ability to display multiple apps at once will allow you to enjoy multiple channels of your favorite content.

This is just a few days before E3 where we could see new features and games being announced or released for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Microsoft is positioning the Xbox console as a multimedia platform, expanding its scope away from gaming. I’m grateful for the company starting to do this, because it means I won’t need a Roku, Apple TV, or Android Tv also hooked-up to consume various other types of media.

“Xbox fans are spending more time than ever on the console, spending more than five hours a day on Xbox One,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President, Devices and Studios at Microsoft. “Today as we announce new commitments from dozens of our partners, including deep integration with experiences like Twitter and Vine, we hit an important milestone in our journey to deliver unique experiences on Xbox. We’re thrilled to break new ground in social TV experiences like we’re doing with Twitter on Xbox One.”

These new tools are amazing and just entice users into spending more time on their Xbox consoles. Tell us in the comments below what you think about the new apps on the Xbox consoles.
