You Can Now Mute People on Twitter
Twitter is officially rolling out the feature which allows you to “mute” a user you’re following. After Twitter tested the feature with a small group of people, the company decided that it would be something that users would like to use. This feature gives you the ability to prevent unwanted content flood your stream. “Muting a user on Twitter means their tweets and retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user,” Twitter explains.
Muting won’t stop your follower from favoriting, retweeting, or replying to you. However if that follower is tweeting about an sports event, tv show, or other live event and you rather not see it you can mute the person. I’ve dealt with following friends that give minute by the minute updates on tv show or movies, and I would normally unfollow them for the duration of the event. Muting now allows me to do it without them getting notifications that I unfollowed then followed them back later in the day. Now this isn’t like in other third party clients where you can mute a hashtag or topic, but its a step to the right way with Twitter.
