Facebook Buys Mobile Mobile App Moves

Protogeo Oy, the company behind the app “Moves” has been acquired by Facebook this Thursday morning. The purchase by Facebook shows that the company is not only interested in virtual gaming, but also the health and fitness market. The app “Moves” is all software based and keep tracks of steps taken, routes taken, and is capable of tracking runs and biking. Why Facebook wanted the company is still up in the air, and what changes are coming to the app is still unclear. 

“Now, we’re joining Facebook’s talented team to work on building and improving their products and services with a shared mission of supporting simple, efficient tools for more than a billion people,” Protogeo Oy said on its blog. “For those of you that use the Moves app — the Moves experience will continue to operate as a standalone app, and there are no plans to change that or commingle data with Facebook.”

Facebook buying spree been all over the board recently with different companies in a bunch of different categories. Facebook’s trying to move away from just being a social network to becoming a powerhouse in all categories of tech.
