Google Acquires Voice Login Startup SlickLogin

Google has acquired SlickLogin which enables people to login to sites through the use of sounds. This could replace 2factor authentication which has been gaining support after recent high profile websites. The startup is worth several million dollars, and is a good sale considering that the startup is only a few months old.

SlickLogin confirmed the acquisition on its site today:

Today we`re announcing that the SlickLogin team is joining Google, a company that shares our core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way. Google was the first company to offer 2-step verification to everyone, for free – and they’re working on some great ideas that will make the internet safer for everyone. We couldn’t be more excited to join their efforts.

Google has always taken special steps to ensure that users accounts are safe, and 2factor authentication has been the go to way for Google to do that. If users could use a sound from their smartphone to login it could offer better security, and be harder to mimic. Google doesn’t have anything planned just yet for these new hires and their technology.
