Matt Mullenweg Will Become Automattic’s CEO

Matt Mullenweg is the founder of the popular blogging platform WordPress. In a blog post today, Mullenweg wrote that he and current CEO Toni Schneider are switiching roles at the company. Mullenweg always believe that some in their 20s should not run a company because they don’t know much about life experience.

Mullenweg wrote that Schneider is “going to focus on some of Automattic’s new products, and I’m going to take on the role of CEO.” He added that, “internally this isn’t a big change as our roles have always been quite fluid, and I’ve had some recent practice filling in for him for a few months last year when he was on sabbatical.”

WordPress is the backbone of the internet with millions of sites running WordPress, and thousands more being hosted on WordPress.com. The blogging platform has become more then just a blogging platform to a full fledged CMS, that whole sites can be built off. Tumblr has been targeting the blogging platform with their free service, but the internet still has a love for WordPress. The open source community contributes to WordPress actively, and has become one of the biggest open source projects on the web.
