Rdio Shuts Down Vdio

Netflix is the king of streaming video, but the people behind the music streaming site Rdio had attempted video streaming with Vdio. The streaming site offered in the US, the UK and Canada, offering movie rentals for $6 and movie purchases for up to $20. The prices were fairly high considering that iTunes and Google Play offer movies around $3.99.

Rdio took Vdio offline today, saying that it was unable to differentiate its offering in a very crowded market. Customers who purchased movies and TV shows or have unwatched rentals will receive compensation in the form of Amazon gift cards, while promotional credit will expire. Rdio has had trouble with its streaming music service and has laid off some of its work force recently. The company is competing with services like Spotify who have a large market, and have become a household name.
