Sony Sells 1 Million PS4’s in 24 Hours
Sony released the PS4 last week, and it appears that its a huge hit with the gamers. The company has reported it has sold 1 million units, which was the entire first shipment to stores. This makes the biggest console launch in American history, but we still have the Xbox One coming in the next few weeks which could shatter this record. Sony had placed the PS4 at a lower price to undercut the Xbox and hopefully grab more market than it had ever before. This is the cheapest a Playstation has lunched at which could have contributed to how many units were sold in the first 24 hours.
Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House has said this was a great launch:
“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”
Are you waiting for the Xbox One or just for more of the Playstation’s to hit stores? Personally I’ve never seen a need to grab the latest consoles at release, because they’ve always been overpriced and have lacked games till later in the consoles life. I have the Xbox 360 and think that console will last me another 1 or 2 years considering Microsoft saying they will keep supporting it. The transition from current generation consoles to these new generation consoles is going to take a while. I’m curious to see how long before game designers stop making titles for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
With technology and console release followed so closely do you think one million units is a lot or that Sony has only scraped the surface? Granted even today, the local 10 O’Clock news will cover the people lining up outside GameStop to snag their PS4. The console war is just gearing up, and Sony appears to have an upper hand.
