House of Cards Wins an Emmy

Netflix last night made history when their original series won an Emmy. This may be the breaking point for alternative television and movies, and this win will help these become even more mainstream. While the series did not win as many as they had hoped but they walked away with an award for David Fincher for Best Directing in a Drama Series. Netflix is trying to become more like HBO without requiring a cable subscription, and offering for one low price all online whenever you want.

Other online services including Hulu, Amazon, and Crackle are producing or funding original series. If more users would cut their cable subscription they would have more users want original series that they can find online. This approach would make all these services become more like television channels, because they’ll all have a pay wall and each with their own original shows.
