Digg Reader App Available for Android

Digg has had an app on iOS for a long time now. However, Android has been lacking an app to access Digg or Digg Reader. Luckily, that has all changed now, because the official Digg app is now here for Android. With the app you can view the Digg homepage, Digg or save stories, and send to Instapaper, Pocket, or Readability. It also allows users to sign into Digg Reader to view their subscriptions. It’s unusual for such a high profile and technology-oriented service to be left off of Android for so long. I know that many companies use being iOS-exclusive as a marketing tactic, but this is just annoying and a problem when Android’s trying to gain more users.

Digg said that this app was their first, and there would be many more features to come. Digg has also said countless times that there would be a paid version of Digg reader, yet we’ve not seen any signs of a paid version. Feedly has recently offered a pro version for $5 a month or $45 a year. There is high demand for this, and Feedly has taken the crown for RSS Readers. The new Digg has taken ideas from their past site with Kevin Rose, and created a beautiful idea and great content.

As Digg makes a comeback, we’ll be watching for new features, a paid version, and maybe more projects from the company. Digg should go and try to make a collection of RSS feeds that users would like, and make a list much like Flipboard does. Digg could also include Diggs into the RSS Reader, but as many have said, the project is in its early stages. The developers are hard at work, and there is still a lot to be done over the next months and years. Tell us what you think about the Digg app for Android or iOS in the comments section below!
