Open source projects are being embraced by more companies including Microsoft, Facebook, and now Disney. The media conglomerate has committed to encouraging their developers to utilize open source, contribute, and release software open source. The program will bring more exposure to smaller projects at Disney that carry a lot of weight within the industry.
There’s currently a handful of open source projects from Disney. The projects are closely related to animation, computer graphics work, file formats, and even server management. The move for Disney to go towards open source will help others in the industry, but also hopefully boost innovation ass hundreds of intelligent eyes will look at these projects. It’ll also help Disney produce better software that’ll later assist them to create their fantastic movies and stories.
