Facebook refreshes Notes to compete with Medium

Facebook Notes was the company’s attempt at blogging when it first started to compete with Myspace way back when. The social network left notes in the dust as it expanded the character count for status on the site. Facebook is now looking for Notes to become a competitor to Medium with its new design.

The design is a cleaner version of notes that sports a large header image and lots of white space. It reminds us of Medium, but without all the unique commenting or community features. If Notes could take a life on its own is iffy as many young users have left the site for Twitter and other services. A spokes person for Facebook told The Verge team that they’re “testing an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook.”

Facebook may not keep the update to Notes or may axe Notes all together in favor of other options. Facebook has focused on getting more content on Facebook through Instant Artiles so pushing Notes update would mean more articles being published within the Facebook network. We are curious if the company would promote these notes post up on the news feed, considering they release this update.

Tell us in the comments down below what you think about the Facebook Notes update!

  1. We are considering using FB notes in a development environment to create a public blog-space for community activists.

    • That’d be interesting, because Facebook does have a lot of weight already with many activist movements. I just see Medium as a better platform, especially for long form.
