Google+ being broken into different services

Google+ is the butt of jokes and really is a joke. In a post on Google+, company VP Bradley Horowitz announced that he was taking charge of the social network. He also said that Google+ would be broken up into different pieces in order to be stronger service that customers would want to use. The Google+ social network part will be on part, and the photo storage and enchantments will become another part. The photo section is being named the photo stream currently but Google could name it differently later.

“Just wanted to confirm that the rumors are true,” wrote Horowitz last night. “I’m excited to be running Google’s Photos and Streams products! It’s important to me that these changes are properly understood to be positive improvements to both our products and how they reach users.”

I’m excited to see what Google does with Google Photos now that its becoming a separate service. The Google+ Photo service currently is the best place to store your photos and have them auto enhanced, but it requires the Google+ app. The app shoves the rest of Google+ down your throat when all you really want to do is have your photos auto backed up and have them auto enhanced.

This move from Google isn’t signally the death of Google+, but them realizing that the Google+ brand is tarnished. They will be taking steps back from forcing Google users into using the service, but instead making it an appealing social network that users will want to use. Hangouts was recently removed from Google+ and made a separate app and service from Google+ Messenger.

Tell us in the comments below what you think about Google Photo Stream and it being separated from Google+.

  1. I tried Google plus when It first started, but then people from high school started adding me on it. I wanted Google Plus to be a place away from the facebook drama for at least a little while, happened faster than I thought.

    • A lot of people that I knew joined but only because they had too. None of them stayed active or really wanted to be on there. I love the photo features and how it creates auto gifs and videos from pictures.
