Snapchat’s Biggest Update Yet

Snapchat’s biggest update yet has hit the app store this morning. The update expands on the apps messaging services and adds text messaging, video chat, and other features that brings the app on the same playing field as WhatsApp, Hangouts, and other messaging apps. Snapchat still emphasis sending quick messages that will automatically delete. The app has the same appearance, but will also open up to the camera app so you can snap friends.

The company seems determined to take on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, iMessage, and other messaging apps. The popularity of the app among teens has brought brands like sports teams, Taco Bell, McDonalds, and other brands to connect with their users. The app still lacks ads or any revenue source, but there are brands and users all connecting on the app.

Snapchat feels “that conversation feels better when it’s visual. So we decided to make sure that every time you launch Snapchat we take you straight to the camera.” Conversations will feel different, and the update is a little confusing at first. The update will take a little to get used to, but once you get a hang of it you will get to enjoy the new ways to communicate within the app. I don’t know if I’ll ever take advantage of chatting through the app, but the video messaging is something that could be fun if I can catch friends at the right time.

Tell us what you think about the new Snapchat update. I know many people’s first response is they don’t like it, so take a little while then tell us your thoughts.
